Richard co-chairs the Family Law Department and has extensive experience in all aspects of matrimonial as well as pre and post marital agreements, mediation, arbitration and civil litigation.
Richard regularly represents clients in negotiating and litigating sophisticated and complex divorce actions including equitable distribution of assets (some marital estates involving hundred of millions of dollars) alimony, child support and custody issues (including international custody disputes arising under the Hague Convention), domestic violence as well as cases with issues arising under or related to the Domestic Partnership Act.
Richard also represents individuals and corporations in complex commercial litigation, business disputes, real estate litigation and criminal matters including RICO allegations. While Richard and his team strive to obtain a fair and satisfactory result for their clients through settlement, Richard is prepared to try the case if a fair settlement is not obtainable.
Richard is a Certified Mediator and has successfully resolved numerous matrimonial disputes while serving as a mediator.
Richard was a member of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office from 1970 to 1976, the Essex County Organized Crime Strike Force from 1973-1974 and was the Director, Bureau of Narcotics from 1974 to 1976. In such capacities he tried hundred of criminal matters including complex narcotic conspiracies, homicides and a multitude of other crimes. Richard was also the Municipal Attorney for the Township of Livingston from 1987 to 1988.
Richard is a member of the Essex County, Morris County, New Jersey and New York State Bar Associations. He serves as a Master of the Matrimonial Inns of Court, on the Essex County Family Law Executive Committee. He participated on the Essex County Ethics Committe. and regularly serves as a panelist for Matrimonial Early Settlement Programs. Richard has been selected consistently over the past several years as one of New Jersey's "Super Lawyers" and has received the highest rating obtainable from his peers for the Martindale-Hubbell.
He received his B.A.from Temple University and his J.D.from Seton Hall University School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, he was law secretary to the Honorable Francis W. Hayden, J.S.C.
